Nigerian service members who were previously held by authorities in Burkina Faso have now landed at a Nigerian Air Force facility in Accra, Ghana, before continuing their trip to Portugal.
This update was made public by the Nigerian Air Force’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, through an official statement released on Friday in Abuja. According to him, the aircraft is traveling to Portugal through Banjul and Casablanca for routine depot-level maintenance.
Ejodame emphasized that every crew member is in good condition and confirmed that the aircraft remains technically sound and fully operational. He explained that the Air Force C-130 plane had earlier carried out a safety-driven landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, but has since departed without issues and safely arrived in Accra.
Reassuring Nigerians, he stated that the Nigerian Air Force remains committed to strict safety standards and professional conduct, while also appreciating the public’s concern and encouragement throughout the incident.
It will be recalled that Burkina Faso’s military authorities had temporarily detained the aircraft and its personnel after the unscheduled landing. The aircraft, along with all 11 Nigerian Air Force personnel, has since been released.
